If we had to define Joan Josep Bertran’s studio work we would say is precision through creativity. Born and raised in the Penedès, around its vineyards, Joan Josep Bertran has contributed along with others, to elevating the genre of label design to a space where agriculture and graphics join hands. Together with their clients they generate messages of cultural significance that can speak to us about origin and territory as well as abstract emotional qualities.

Expression

Bold ideas, tactile finishes and visual narratives that give each product its own voice. Labels and packaging are not just about looking good, they tell stories, evoke emotion and shape perception. We understand the codes of specialty food and beverages, and use design as a strategic tool to position products memorably in the market. Expression is not negotiable.

Attitude

The work ranges from unusual and very personal interpretations to identities based on the reinterpretation of tradition, through careful executions of more widely distributed products. Always, without compromising conceptual quality and graphic production finishes with attention to detail.

Our team is a small team: agile, involved, and fully in control of the creative and tone of voice. We cater to very special makers that need no compromise on narratives and crecibility. We like to establish close, complicit and collaborative relationships with our clients and we take the conceptual quality and graphic execution of the projects we carry out very seriously. We are versatile enough to conceptualize products for large and small winegrowers, local and international wineries and breweries, or creating private labels for marketers and distribution groups.

Sense of place

Rooted in Barcelona, our studio lives between wine growing lands and the city. This dual perspective allows us to understand the producers and its projection into the world. We work closely with winegrowers, distillers and brewers, often starting from the land itself. We believe that design can evoke a sense of place, a landscape, a climate, a culture. Our designs celebrate terroir as a living concept that connects the product with its deepest identity.

The solidity of his work has been recognized locally and internationally with several Laus and Pentawards d’Or awards. Currently, the studio is opening up to new food and beverage industries, to which they also offer design consulting services.

The most important thing for us is to articulate a message that condenses a truth, not only feels true. We try to build visuals for each product that can provide the product with a credible expression of its spirit, that explains its nature and with which it can be emotionally connected. Memorable.
